Xenical is purposed to help people lose weight and maintain weight loss. Xenical works in your intestines by blocking some of the fat you eat from being absorbed. This undigested fat is eliminated in your bowel movements. Xenical should be combined with a reduced-calorie diet. The effects of Xenical continue only as long as you are taking it.
How Taken
Xenical is produced in capsules for oral use. The usual dose is tree times a day with food. You should take Xenical exactly as prescribed. You should not take bigger or smaller doses or take it more frequently than prescribed. Xenical should be taken with your meal. You should have a diet consisting of daily intake of fat (30% of total calories), carbohydrates, and protein should be distributed evenly in 3 main meals.
Warnings/Precautions
Before starting treatment with Xenical, you should inform your doctor if you have a chronic malabsorption syndrome, or gallbladder problems. In these cases your health condition may not be suitable for taking Xenical. Before taking Xenical, inform your doctor in case you have a history of, diabetes, kidney stones, anorexia or bulimia, if you take any other weight-loss medicine or cyclosporine. In those cases you may not be able to take Xenical, or you may need adjustment of the doses or a special medical monitoring during your treatment. Xenical is in the FDA pregnancy category B. It is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or if there is a chance to get pregnant during treatment. Xenical is not known to get into breast milk and whether it may have negative influences on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor first if you are breast feeding.
Missed Dose
If you forget a dose, take your next dose with the next meal. Do not take two doses at time. The extra drug will not help.
Possible Side Effects
You should stop taking Xenical and find instant medical help in case of a rare allergic reaction including throat closing; breath shortness; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives. There are possible to appear other not that severe reactions. You should continue taking Xenical and consult your doctor if you experience gas with discharge, oily spotting, an urgent need to go to the bathroom, an oily discharge, oily or fatty stools, an increased number of bowel movements, orange or brown colored oil in your stool, an inability to control bowel movements. The bowel changes lmentioned above are a natural effect of blocking fat and are an indicator that Xenical is working. These symptoms usually appear during the first treatment stages, particularly after meals containing higher amounts of fat than is usually recommended. These reactions are temporary and lessen or disappear as you go further in treatment and stick to your recommended diet of meals containing 30% fat. There are possible to appear other side effects that are not included here. Alarm your doctor if you observe any unusual conditions that seem bothersome.
Storage
Keep this medication at normal room temperature and away from children. Make sure the drug is protected from moisture. Keep container tightly closed. Throw away after the expiration date.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, find instant medical help. Symptoms of a Xenical overdose are not known.
More Information
Xenical may decrease the ability of your body to absorb some fat-soluble vitamins. To give you the needed nutrition, your doctor may recommend taking a multivitamin that contain vitamins D, E, K, and beta-carotene. Take your vitamin supplement once a day, at least 2 hours before or after a dose of Xenical. Each meal that is combined with Xenical should contain no more than about 30% of fat calories.
