Drug Uses
Carisoprodol is used as a muscle relaxant that relieves stiffness and pain of muscle spasma and discomfort that is caused d by strain and sprain.
How Taken
Carisoprodol is purposed for oral use only. The average dose for adults is one 350 mg tablet, taken three times a day and before going to bed. It should not be given to children under 12 years of age. Carisoprodol should be taken with food or milk so that you will avoid having an upset stomach.
Warnings/Precautions
Carisoprodol is not recommended in case of acute intermittent porphyria. Inform your doctor, before taking Carisoprodol, about the presence of any kidney or liver disease. In such cases you may need different doses or special medical monitoring during the treatment period. There is not any information whether Carisoprodol can be harmful for an unborn baby. Before taking Carisoprodol you should first consult your doctor, especially if you are pregnant. It is also unknown whether Carisoprodol goes into breast milk. If you are breast-feeding a baby, first contact your doctor. This drug its not prescribed for kids under 12 years of age.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take a dose, just take it as soon as you remember if it is not later than 1 hour. If it is too close to the next dose, leave the missed one and follow your normal dose schedule. Do not take two doses at a time in order to catch up.
Possible Side Effects
Carisoprodol is possible to be the reason for insomnia, headache, irritability, tremor, vertigo, depressive reactions, syncope, agitation, ataxia, dizziness. There can also appear allergic or idiosyncratic reactions. This is more typical for people that take the drug for the first time and the listed symptoms usually appear during the first four doses. There can also appear the following reactions: eosinophilia, erythema multiform, skin rash, pruritus and fixed drug eruption with cross reaction to meprobamate. Other side effects may also include hypotension, anaphylactoid shock, smerting eyes, fever, dizziness, weakness, angioneurotic edema.
Storage
It should be stored at average room temperature between 15°-30°C (59°-86°F). Keep it in a tight container.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, find instant medical help. There can occur symptoms such as unconsciousness, low blood pressure (confusion, weakness, fainting) and decreased breathing.
